First step to getting into the trade is to locate the closest IBEW local in your area. Give them a call and let them know that you’re interested in becoming an apprentice electrician. They should be able to let you know all the prerequisites and you take it from there. Good luck.

I’ve been an Electrician for over 39 years, starting with my electrical apprenticeship in 1970. For anyone interested it’s a great field and something that’s going to be here no matter what. We see a lot of College emphasis for careers, but that’s not for everyone and it’s been a great path for myself and my family. I wouldn’t change a thing about my choice so many years ago.
